South Africa Country Manager & Senior Environmental Scientist
Holding a BSc honours in Biological Sciences and a PhD in Environmental Sciences Ricardo Ramalho has been conducting environmental studies for the past 10 years. He gained experience across a wide range of projects, from scientific research, voluntary work for biodiversity conservation NGO's and biodiversity and ecosystem valuing, to strategic environmental assessment, impact assessment and biodiversity monitoring programmes, for both private and public sector. He is specialised in biodiversity assessments and monitoring, with excellent technical skills and expertise on most of the terrestrial biodiversity groups and freshwater aquatic ecosystems. His experience spreads across several industries, from transmission power lines, roads, railways, hydroelectric power generation, housing and industrial development, agricultural developments, territorial planning and land management and renewable energy projects. Ricardo believes it is possible to reconcile biodiversity conservation with the society progress and human development. This process goes hand in hand with using most recent tools and technological advances, helping clients to understand projects ecological interactions and together develop sustainable solutions. His main responsibilities extend from the day to day management and business development of Bioinsight South Africa, to the projects’ technical supervision and scientific advisory.
