Helena Coelho

Marine Specialist

Helena Coelho holds a PhD in Biology and a BSc in Science Coastal Zone. Over the past 11 years Helena has participated in the development and coordination of environmental monitoring studies, environmental impact assessment, post assessment, land use, biodiversity management, ecosystem services valuation and R&D projects applied to biodiversity. Helena has been particularly focused on aquatic ecosystems, both freshwater and marine.

Lately, Helena has acquired competences on team and project managing, focused to help clients to achieve the best solutions and the development of sustainable projects.

She has authored more than 15 scientific publications in international journals (peer review) and actively participated in the development of innovative protocols in the application of non-destructive optical methods in ecological and ecophysiological studies. She followed the developments and application of the European Community’s Water and Marine Strategy Directive. Helena is also PhD Collaborator of CESAM (Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies) integrating the Marine and Estuarine Ecology research group.

Helena enjoys travelling, photography and movies and she always try to be in contact with nature.

Main working areas or relevant skills: Project management. Environmental Impact Assessment. Strategical Environmental Assessment. Biodiversity Management and Planning (focus on aquatic ecology, both marine and terrestrial). Ecological Monitoring. Ecosystem services valuation. Water Framework Directive and Marine strategy framework directive.
