Catarina Ferreira

Mammal Ecologist

Catarina Ferreira has a graduation in Biology. She started her career in 2010 working with mammals and her graduation final project was developed from a monitoring program of a constructing highway. Ever since she has been applying different sampling techniques into monitoring programs to a wide range of projects, such as highways, dams and wind farms. However, in the past few years she has been developing skills to work with other groups of fauna (reptiles, amphibians) and flora (control of invasive species).

Since 2011, she also has been working on the implementation of Offset’s projects in Portugal that could mitigate the impact of infrastructures (mainly power lines and wind farms) over endangered species of birds, namely Bonelli's eagle, Golden eagle, Eagle owl, Peregrine falcon, Montagu’s harrier, Black stork and Red-billed chough. At the same time, in order to understand the real impacts and the biodiversity gains resulting from the offset, she has been responsible for the implementation of several monitoring programs. Under this topic she helped in the orientation of 1 master thesis.

She presented 1 poster related to her final project graduation theme and also collaborated in the preparation of 1 oral communication and 4 posters at technical and scientific conferences.

Main working areas or relevant skills: Field work planning and coordination, Habitat management, Field detection and identification of inland mammals, reptiles and amphibians, Camera trapping, Data Analysis, Writing of technical reports.
